Acropolis Hill

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ultimate icon of Western Civilization. For more than two and a half thousand years, the "Sacred Rock" of Athens has dominated the city skyline, containing the architectural wonders of the Golden Age: the Parthenon devoted to the goddess Athena, the Erechtheion famous for the Caryatids, and the grand Propylaea gateway. Discover the cradle of democracy and philosophy while marveling at the magnitude of fifth-century BC engineering.

Hadrian's Gate

Built in 131 AD by the Athenians in recognition of the Roman emperor Hadrian for his numerous contributions to the city. The arch was constructed using high-quality Pentelic marble without any mortar or cement, symbolizing the dividing line between two cities. Two notable inscriptions can be found on the arch – one that mentions Athens as the city of Theseus, and the other that mentions Athens as the city of Hadrian.

Temple of Olympian Zeus

This huge building used to be the biggest temple in the entire Greek territory. It was constructed in honor of the king of Olympian Gods. The construction started in the 6th century BC but the work ended after more than 700 years during the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Out of 104 Corinthian columns that were erected at the time, only 15 now remain standing with a height of about 17 meters.

Panathenaic Stadium

It is a historical monument that is the only one in the world constructed from pure white Pentelic marble. It was initially built in the 4th century BC for Panathenaic Games and later rebuilt to serve as the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The venue can accommodate over 50,000 spectators.

Changing of the Guards

This is one of the most moving ceremonies in Athens, that takes place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Greek Parliament Building. The Evzones, who guard the president of Greece, wear the traditional military outfit called the "fustanella," which has 400 pleats to symbolize the 400 years of Turkish occupation. This ceremony occurs every hour, and you will see how disciplined these soldiers are.

Trilogy of Athens

This is an incredible architectural complex located at Panepistimiou Street that symbolizes the rebirth of modern Greece’s culture and learning. This complex includes three structures: the Academy, with statues of Plato and Socrates on both sides, the University, with magnificent frescoes, and the National Library. Built in the 19th century by the Hansen brothers, it is considered to be one of the most amazing architectural complexes in the style of Neoclassicism.

Lycabettus Hill

Lycabettus, at an elevation of 277 meters, is the highest point in Athens. Mythology says that the hill originated from the limestone rock which Athena had been carrying but later dropped off near the Acropolis. Lycabettus Hill today boasts of some amazing panoramic views from its peaks to the whole of the Attica basin. Here you get to visit the beautiful 19th century chapel dedicated to Saint George and take pictures of the magnificent view of the Acropolis set against the background of the Saronic Gulf.

Lake Vouliagmeni

An amazing gift of nature itself and a "drowned" paradise. It is a unique brackish lake, supplied with fresh water from geothermal springs and seawater from ocean currents. Thus, its temperature remains warm throughout the year. It is enclosed by high limestone cliffs, with its green water providing an unbelievable scenery of calmness.

Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio

Nestled upon a cliff 60 meters high, overlooking the Aegean Sea, the Temple of Poseidon is one of the most romantic places in all of Ancient Greece. Built in honor of the God of Sea, the 5th century BC temple with its magnificent marble columns will take your breath away with their unique ability to catch the light.
